Lead Software Engineer (Rust)

About the role

Roche Diagnostics Solutions (RDS), part of Roche's Computational Science & Informatics division, is looking for a Lead Software Engineer (Rust) to act as its premier Rust expert. The role leads the strategic migration of core execution engines, algorithms and high-performance systems from C# to Rust, within an on-site position.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the migration of legacy C# (.NET) codebases, execution engines and complex algorithms into optimized, safe and concurrent Rust applications.
• Design, develop, test and maintain high-performance software components across the full software development lifecycle.
• Define the new stack: coding standards, workflows and build and CI/CD environments.
• Coach and mentor developers, building internal Rust expertise from the ground up.
• Monitor progress against the architectural design and quality standards, ensuring compliance with quality, security, modifiability and extensibility requirements.

Required profile

• Extensive software engineering experience with a proven track record of shipping and maintaining production-grade Rust applications.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to coach, mentor and guide engineering teams, and to communicate complex technical roadmaps in English.

Required skills

• Production-level Rust, including memory safety, lifetimes, async runtimes such as Tokio, concurrency models and tooling (Cargo, Clippy).
• Foundational knowledge of C# and .NET architectures.
• Architectural skills for designing complex, scalable systems.
