Platform Product Manager - Shared Services (IAM & Messaging)

About the role

Frontiers, an open-access research publisher, owns its shared technical services (today Identity & Access Management and Messaging) through its Platform Shared Services team. It is looking for a Platform Product Manager to own the strategy and roadmap of these services, which are used by Frontiers' own engineering teams rather than end users. The role sits in a delivery triad with the Platform Engineering Manager and Senior Engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve the roadmap for IAM and Messaging, prioritising internal engineering demand, security and compliance and breaking initiatives into iterative releases.
• Turn engineering needs into clear specs and a prioritised backlog (PRDs/SDDs in git).
• Co-design with engineers on architecture, API contracts and service-level requirements.
• Own the service/API lifecycle, including versioning, deprecation and backward compatibility.
• Act as the main point of contact for internal customers integrating with IAM and Messaging, covering discovery, onboarding, support and feedback.
• Define and track metrics such as adoption, SLAs/SLOs, integration time, security posture and cost.
• Partner with Security, Architecture and Infrastructure on compliance and the Technology Framework.

Required profile

• 5+ years in technical or platform product management or engineering leadership, with significant platform or developer-facing product experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical technical experience; a technical background is preferred.
• Professional English (spoken and written).

Required skills

• Solid software-engineering fundamentals and ability to read technical docs, diagrams and API specs.
• API design, versioning and lifecycle management.
• Working knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, Kafka, RabbitMQ and cloud (Azure/AWS/GCP).
• Nice to have: authentication/messaging systems, GDPR consent and email deliverability, Azure/Kubernetes (AKS), CI/CD, InnerSource, Cursor/MCP, and a background in scientific publishing.
