Research Analyst - Competition Practice

About the role

Compass Lexecon, a leading economic consulting firm, is hiring Research Analysts for its Competition Practice in Madrid. The practice advises clients on competition policy, economic and financial regulation, public policy and damage assessment in complex disputes, including cases before the European Commission, the General Court and national authorities. Analysts join after an undergraduate degree in economics; those finishing or having finished a Master's in economics are encouraged to apply for the Analyst position. This is a one- or two-year fixed-term role, suitable for candidates planning further postgraduate study.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and interpret large amounts of client data, including customer, price and cost data and competitor data and market shares
• Research how firms compete and identify the key variables affecting their decision-making
• Summarise the relevant facts to understand the client's industry
• Take responsibility for quality control and ensure accurate, error-free work
• Draft reports interpreting and summarising the analysis

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in economics, ideally with a focus on microeconomics, industrial organisation and/or econometrics
• Fluency in English is essential; Portuguese is desirable
• Highly analytical, with excellent organisational skills and the ability to multi-task
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work independently and in a team

Required skills

• Stata and Excel skills are desirable
