Senior Azure Cloud Architect

About the role

SGS, a global testing, inspection and certification company, is looking for a Senior Azure Cloud Architect in Madrid. The role designs, governs and evolves the organization's Microsoft Azure cloud architecture strategy, keeping Azure as the primary enterprise cloud platform while remaining aware of AWS and Google Cloud Platform capabilities where needed. It works closely with enterprise architects, cybersecurity teams, application owners, DevOps engineers and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Azure architecture roadmaps, target-state architectures, modernization approaches and migration strategies, applying the Cloud Adoption Framework and Azure Well-Architected Framework.
• Design and govern Azure Landing Zones, including subscriptions, management groups, naming standards, tagging, policies and secure networking and hybrid connectivity.
• Architect solutions across IaaS, PaaS, containers, data, analytics, integration, AI, disaster recovery and business continuity, and establish security baselines with Azure Policy, RBAC, Microsoft Entra ID, Defender for Cloud, Key Vault and monitoring.
• Ensure compliance with standards such as ISO 27001, ISO 22301, SOC 2, GDPR and NIS2, and conduct architecture reviews and security assessments.
• Lead cloud migration and modernization, including workload assessment and rehost, replatform, refactor, retire and replace approaches, and drive containerization and cloud-native adoption.
• Develop cloud cost optimization strategies, promote Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD automation and DevOps and Platform Engineering capabilities.
• Present technical solutions to stakeholders, mentor engineering and operations teams and advise on cloud strategy.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems engineering or architecture, including 5+ years designing and implementing enterprise-scale Azure solutions.
• Proven experience with Azure Landing Zones, cloud governance, security and modernization, and integrating Azure with on-premises environments; exposure to AWS and/or GCP is desirable.
• Strong understanding of the Cloud Adoption Framework and Azure Well-Architected Framework.

Required skills

• Microsoft Azure, including networking, governance, security, identity management, monitoring and cost optimization.
• Azure services such as AKS, App Services, API Management, Azure Monitor and cloud-native architectures.
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM) and CI/CD automation with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or similar.
• Cloud security (Microsoft Entra ID, Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, Azure Policy, RBAC, Key Vault).
• Containerization and Kubernetes.
• Certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Administrator Associate, CCSP, TOGAF or CKA are preferred.
