Senior Designated Support Engineer – Lustre Storage
ddn · Madrid
Job description
About the role
DDN, a high-performance data storage company with a 25-year track record, is hiring a Senior Designated Support Engineer for its largest and most strategic global customers. This is a named-account role, not a general support queue: you will own complex, large-scale Lustre parallel file system environments from end to end. You will join a team of 7 experienced engineers, supported by specialists in Lustre and parallel file systems, and work closely with DDN's engineering and education teams.
Key responsibilities
- Provide advanced technical support for DDN storage solutions across APAC customer environments.
- Support multiple strategic customer accounts under a global follow-the-sun model, with seamless handoffs between APAC, EMEA and the Americas.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex issues and high-priority incidents.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Lustre parallel file systems and large-scale storage environments.
- Work with customer administrators and infrastructure teams to diagnose and fix complex system issues.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on product improvements through customer feedback and root cause analysis.
- Develop test plans for upgrades, maintenance and troubleshooting, and help build internal troubleshooting tools and documentation.
- Mentor junior support engineers and share knowledge across the global support organization.
- Take part in a rotating on-call schedule for APAC customers, with occasional travel within APAC; flexible hours may be needed.
Required profile
- 7+ years of experience in technical support, systems engineering or infrastructure engineering.
- Proven expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex system and infrastructure issues.
- Excellent customer communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed global technical team.
Required skills
- Extensive experience with Lustre parallel file systems (administration, implementation or support).
- Strong Linux system administration and deep knowledge of storage platforms, RAID, erasure coding and distributed storage.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (Ethernet, TCP/IP, routing, network troubleshooting).
- Preferred: scripting with Shell, Python or Perl; InfiniBand and high-speed Ethernet; NAS protocols (NFS, CIFS/SMB, S3, FTP, SFTP); Active Directory or LDAP; other parallel file systems such as Spectrum Scale or StorNext.
