Service Control Software Engineer - Traction Applications

About the role

ABB's service centre in Spain is looking for a flexible, highly motivated Control Software Engineer to join its multi-disciplinary engineering team. The role reports to the Service Operations Manager and focuses on developing traction application software for a wide range of vehicles and applications such as trams, locomotives, trains, maintenance vehicles and energy storage systems. It is an onsite position based at the customer's site.

Key responsibilities

• Act as first-level support for software problems at the customer site: understand the reported bug, gather and analyse data, and troubleshoot ABB converters
• Adapt and extend existing software and documentation to meet customer needs while respecting standards and homologation requirements
• Test and troubleshoot software in diverse environments and support customers during commissioning and homologation, travelling extensively
• Night shifts and weekend work are likely to be needed
• Coordinate technical solutions with peers to reuse software, minimise bugs and accelerate standardisation

Required profile

• University degree in Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science or equivalent
• Minimum 4 years of experience in software development for closed-loop control, signal processing, algorithms and real-time programming, including commissioning
• Broad knowledge of converter control, power electronics or automotive
• Strong written and spoken English and Spanish

Required skills

• IEC 61131-3 (CODESYS) and MATLAB/Simulink
• Software versioning tools (SVN, Git)
• Communication protocols and field buses (CAN, TRDP, J1939, MVB)
• Understanding of standards such as EN 50657, EN 50128 or ISO 26262 is a plus
