Field Service Technician - Industrial Drives

About the role

ABB is hiring a Field Service Technician for its Automation Process Industries Division in Trapagaran, Spain. The technician programs, engineers, commissions, carries out preventive maintenance and troubleshoots ABB industrial drives and control systems in metals and pulp and paper plants, working within a local team and with international project teams. The role is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Perform commissioning, preventive and corrective maintenance of AC and DC drives and control systems according to work instructions, ABB standard processes, quality standards and safety guidelines.
• Take on-call service according to customer contracts, at least one full week every three weeks, with 24-hour availability to travel to customers during that week.
• Adapt working hours to customer needs, including extra hours on weekends or public holidays.
• Travel about 60-80% of the time, mainly domestically, for commissioning and service activities.
• Collaborate with project managers, sales, customers and engineering peers across locations.
• Advise customers on service solutions and troubleshoot simple equipment failures, recommending ways to prevent recurrence.
• Identify opportunities to develop new service applications, equipment and methods.

Required profile

• CFGS or university degree in electricity, electronics or automation, with more than 2 years of experience in commissioning, maintenance or technical assistance.
• Good understanding of functional safety standards and project practices.
• Native or near-native Spanish and a good command of English; additional languages welcome.
• Leadership attitude, initiative and strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to travel and to adjust working hours.
• Valid driving licence for Spain.
