Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical Calculations (Electrical Rotating Machines)

About the role

ABB is hiring a Senior Project Engineer for mechanical calculations on electrical rotating machines, within the Hydro and Ring Motor organisation. The engineer supports the Engineering department by calculating hydro machines and ring motors in line with ABB standards and targets. The position reports to the Senior Engineering Manager and follows a hybrid work model.

Key responsibilities

• Perform analytical mechanical calculations of components and structures under the supervision of mechanical engineers.
• Develop and run finite element analysis (FEA) models, processing and interpreting the results.
• Collaborate on resolving technical queries and mechanical issues raised by Projects, Service, Purchasing, Engineering and Manufacturing.
• Review and update technical documentation, calculation reports, specifications and procedures.
• Take part in technical monitoring of equipment manufacturing and assembly, analysing potential deviations and proposing solutions.
• Prepare technical reports and present mechanical calculation and analysis results.
• Take part in technical coordination meetings with multidisciplinary teams and in standardising mechanical solutions and capturing lessons learned.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Industrial Engineering.
• Experience in mechanical calculations for electrical rotating machines.
• Experience in FEM analysis (Ansys or similar).
• High level of spoken and written English; adaptability, integrity and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
• Driving licence is a plus.
