HR Generalist

About the role

Urban Italian Group, a fast-growing European hospitality group with restaurant brands such as Basta, Florentine, Trattoria Giorgio's, Lola Maria and Villa Valentina, is looking for an HR Generalist based in Madrid. Initially the focus will be on HR operations, administration, payroll coordination and compliance with Spanish labour legislation and collective agreements; as the People function grows, the role will also shape employee experience, culture, engagement and development.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day HR operations and administration across the employee lifecycle.
• Coordinate employment contracts, amendments, onboarding, offboarding and employee documentation.
• Support monthly payroll processes with the external gestoría to ensure accuracy and timely delivery.
• Ensure compliance with Spanish labour law, collective agreements and internal policies.
• Monitor working hours, holidays, absences and employee records.
• Provide HR guidance to General Managers and Operations Managers.
• Handle employee relations matters, including disciplinary procedures and performance management.
• Maintain HR data, prepare reports and track key People metrics.
• Improve HR processes, systems and ways of working, and contribute to engagement, culture, learning and development initiatives.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an HR Generalist, HR Operations professional or similar.
• Hospitality experience, preferably in restaurants.
• Strong knowledge of Spanish labour law and collective agreements.
• Familiarity with payroll, HR administration and working with external suppliers.
• Fluent Spanish and English.
• Organised, detail-oriented, proactive and comfortable with HR systems, data and reporting tools.
