Senior Aerodynamics Engineer

About the role

Airbus Defence & Space is looking for a senior Aerodynamics Engineer in Getafe, Spain, to join the team responsible for the aerodynamic development and optimisation of its aircraft. The engineer works in the multidisciplinary environment of Flight Physics, collaborating with international partners, and takes part in external shape design, aerodynamic modelling, performance and handling qualities analysis, safe separation studies and wind tunnel test campaigns.

Key responsibilities

• Design air vehicle external shapes and provide comprehensive aerodynamic models and data on performance, handling qualities and loads in steady and unsteady mode.
• Ensure optimised aerodynamic solutions and data are delivered to customers on time, cost and quality.
• Develop and maintain technologies, methods and tools to meet programme design and integration needs across the life cycle.
• Contribute to meeting vehicle aerodynamic and flight performance targets within time, cost and quality objectives.
• Develop expertise in numerical and experimental aerodynamic prediction tools and acquire aerodynamic technologies in line with the company strategy.
• Link with the external research community and with disciplines such as structures, loads, stability and control, and mass properties.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering (a PhD is valuable).
• At least 5 years of experience in aerodynamic design and characterisation.
• Advanced English; German and/or French are valuable.

Required skills

• Strong experience with meshing and numerical aerodynamic prediction tools.
• Strong experience generating aerodynamic databases from experimental and CFD data.
• Strong experience with CAD tools.
• Nice to have: wind tunnel testing, safe separation, Python and Matlab.
